Military Perspectives on "The Global Wire"

On the latest episode of the "The Global Wire," Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Dana Priest warns, "If you set aside combat operations... you get into a whole realm that the military is not that equipped to deal with."

In the first episode of a special two part National Security series, Priest is joined by former Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral James Loy and former Deputy Commander in Chief, U.S. European Command, and Deputy Homeland Security Advisor to the President Admiral Steve Abbot. The episode focuses on the military perspective of the link between American national security, and development and diplomacy. Other topics include:

• Equipping the Army with sewing machines
• The military's advice for the next president
• The struggle between proconsuls and diplomats
• Keeping the next president safe from the tyranny of the inbox
